Recooping + getting things done!

I shared about my first real race crash (times 3) and my first overall female finish in the same race yesterday (HERE). I went on my first run since crashing this morning. I’ll share about that later!
Yesterday, we woke up and were SUPER lazy, which was amazing. Jake got really sick with a terrible sinus infection Friday morning, we left for the Singletrack Mind Festival Friday afternoon. Poor guy. He was the race director and in charge of a bunch of the races, he was crazy busy all weekend. I don’t know how he did it, especially with sleeping outside! He needed a day of rest after such a busy, fun weekend. I woke up Sunday morning (still at Singletrack Mind) feeling pretty crummy, but was hoping it was just allergies. I still didn’t feel all that great Monday morning, neither did Jake. He cooked us up this egg and veggie for scramble yesterday morning – we think it was good, we can’t really taste anything…

We finally left the house around noon, stopped by our friend Dan’s house to see some new camping gear he had gotten for his birthday – he got some awesome stuff! Then Jake and I headed to Brew Co. for lunch. Sam and Ryan met us there for a drink, too!

I had this salad and Jake got chicken tenders! Both were delicious!

After lunch, Jake and I were pretty worn out, so we wanted to take a short nap. Wellll, 3 hours later (whoops!) we woke up. I think we must have needed that rest! We eat pretty clean most of the time, but the last couple of weeks we haven’t been as strict as usual. We can both feel it! We are going back to a more Paleo-ish menu starting today and I can’t wait. We enjoyed some wings (our favorite) for dinner last night before we get a little more strict. Following Paleo is one of our favorite diets – I use the term “diet” to explain a lifestyle, we aren’t restricting calories. To be totally honest with you, I couldn’t tell you how many calories either of us consumes in a day. I used to SUPER anal about counting calories, to the point where I was obsessive about it. I hated it. So, we both feel our best when we are eating clean, but we eat when we are hungry and stop when we are full. That’s it! I really watch the sauces we use – I stick to olive oil, avocado oil, coconut aminos, and obviously Sriracha, which is not Paleo. We are not 100% Paleo, so please don’t think I am saying that! We eat a little more carbs that normal Paleo, just because we like having that fuel for our endurance activities. We just do what works best for us, but use the Paleo diet as a guide. It works great! Here are our wings from last night!

Jake gets super into anything we are watching…it always cracks me up. Look how focused he is! We were watching New Girl. I got a little foot massage, too. Maybe he’s actually mad about that… ; )

These two had made beds for themselves while Jake and I were working on laundry. Lu loves to sleep on Jake’s pillows.

Jake decided he needed to join the girls for some cuddles! They love him. Although, Lu looks pretty annoyed right here…

I went to bed feeling awful and woke up feeling the same way. I couldn’t make myself get out of bed. My plan had been to run at 5 am, but I didn’t get out of bed until almost 8. Once I was up, I felt a little better. I headed out for a run – my plan had been to do 6, with some speed work in the middle, but I knew that wasn’t going to happen with how crummy I was feeling. So, I went out hoping to get 4, but knowing that I would stop whenever I needed to. The first mile felt great! I could have ran 20 miles feeling that way! But once I got into the second mile, I started to feel crummy again. I ended up stopping after 3. I don’t want to make whatever I have worse! I think it’s allergies, but I’ve never really had allergies, so I don’t know. I’m going to take it easy the rest of the day.

I was starving, but didn’t have much of an appetite, so I threw a bunch of good stuff into our blender and made a smoothie! This is how it came out! I love when the smoothie fits in the cup perfectly!

I have a dentist appointment here in a little bit (it’s with my Dad, so it’s no biggie), then I have a phone conference with the head of my dissertation committee. I’m working on my PhD right now (this is my last year!!!!) and will graduate in May! I have to defend my dissertation proposal, which is my huge research project, on Friday. GULP. So my meeting today is all about that, graduation, and a paper I am helping present at a literacy conference in December. Also, we ALMOST have all our wedding details dialed down and ready to share with you! I’ll post all about it later this week.
Any tips out there for allergy stuff? I’m willing to try anything!
How was your first day back to the real world after a long weekend?
Happy Tuesday, everyone! I hope your day is wonderful!

    Hope you feel well soon!
I’d love to know any reccomended Paleo resources as I am also interested in eating more whole foods that are heavy on veggies and gluten free.
