Weekend Wrap-up!

Friday morning breakfast and a little coffee in bed.

I worked on the computer Friday morning and before I knew it, it was time for lunch! I had more leftovers. I officially finished this round of edits for Chapter 4. I know I will have more – I did a bunch of restructuring with this chapter, so it changed quite a bit. I’m hoping I don’t have too many more edits on it, but it felt good to get so many finally finished.
I finished up working on the chapter and then took a snack break.
Jake and I both had different plans Friday night. I was going to dinner with my family for Father’s Day because my sister was going to be out of town Sunday, and Jake had a team dinner with a company he races for. Since we were going to be spending our evenings apart, Jake suggested grabbing a quick drink together before we headed to our dinners. He came home from work and got cleaned up – Lu and I cuddled while we waited.
We enjoyed sitting outside and hanging out for a little bit.
I met my family at my parents’ house and we headed to Top of the Rock for dinner. Isn’t it beautiful? This is the golf course and the second picture is the chapel on the property. We love going down here!
We ate at Arnie’s Barn, which has Mexican food.
We sampled all of the guac – it was yummy.
I sipped on a Paloma, which is tequila and grapefruit soda. It’s so refreshing!
I had the chicken enchiladas.
I haven’t been eating dairy, but I decided to go for it. They were delicious. White cheese doesn’t bother me as much as yellow, and since these had a Pepperjack Cheese sauce, I thought I’d be okay. It didn’t upset my stomach too much! I did feel sick during my run the next morning, but I don’t think it was the cheese.
My sister LOVES dessert, so we let her pick what we would share. She picked this brownie with ice cream. It was good!
The lighting isn’t great in these, but the guys went to the driving range to golf, so we took some pictures before we headed down to watch them.
The guys had a blast hitting golf balls. Pipe was worried about her dress flying up…she cracked me up trying to hit the ball.
Here’s the massive sink hole that opened up in 2015. You can read all about it HERE. They’ve made it into a Cathedral of Nature – it looks awesome!
Saturday morning trail run time!

We got started a little later than we had wanted, but it still felt good to be out on some trail. We had planned to do 10, which Jake did, but I had a really upset stomach, so I stopped at 6. I think I can’t eat peanut butter before I run. Anyone else out there have that issue?? I’ve heard from a couple of other people they can’t have peanut butter because it makes them really sick during runs. I’m bummed! I’d been feeling super nauseated during my last couple of long runs and the PB is the only common factor.

We rocked our Julbo glasses. I’m obsessed with these. I have THIS pair and Jake has THESE.

We took Aspen with us and she had a blast. She is SO good on trail. She’s also crazy fast. I love watching her. We took a lot of water breaks for her. It was HOT out.
Since Jake wanted 10 and I was feeling so crummy, I took Aspen with me to finish up 6. She ran right next to me or behind me the whole time. She’s usually way ahead of us, so I could tell she was getting tired. We haven’t been running with her like we need to. She used to do crazy long runs with Jake.
When we finished our run, we walked down to the river to wait for Jake to finish.
We saw huge fish bones!
Jake ran right past me and into the water. HA! Look how excited Aspen was to have him back with us.
Aspen passed out as soon as we got back into the truck.
We were starving, so we dropped Aspen at the house and headed to Galloway for BLTs!
We had plans to go to the river or the lake, but I was still feeling kind of crummy, so I laid down in bed and passed out. All afternoon. I was SO dang tired. When I finally woke up, we ran errands, grabbed Andy’s to share (this is one thing I’ll never totally give up – I just have small amounts and I’m okay!), then got ready for some last minute dinner plans with Sam and Ryan!
We went to Pappo’s for dinner. Jake and I shared a salad and wings before our pizza came out.
We got a BBQ pulled pork pizza (light cheese – white cheese doesn’t bother me as much) and Sam and Ryan had a supreme-ish pizza. I didn’t try theirs, but ours was good! We have had ours before and it was better last time, but I think it just didn’t have as much BBQ sauce on it this time around.
After dinner, we went to Sam and Ryan’s house. They have the world’s greatest porch swing, so I chose to be anti-social and enjoy it!
Sam joined me, and she brought Starbursts. Best gal ever.
Jake left to fish super early Sunday morning. I had thought about going with him, but lately, I’ve been putting meal prep off until Monday, and then I don’t get the whole day to work on dissertation stuff. I decided to stay home, get my run in, and knock out all our meal prep. It was a good decision! I got 6 miles in at OTC. I used to love this loop, but had forgotten about it. It’s a 1.25 mile loop and it has some hills! I love that you can do 4 loops and have 5 miles. It’s a total mental thing, but I love it. The loop is completely paved and it goes around the school building.
This was my last run with these shoes. Sad day. It always bums me out a little to retire a pair of running shoes. Anyone else ever feel this way?
It’s hard to tell in this picture, but this hill is hard! Especially when you’re running up it for the 5th time.
I didn’t have peanut butter on my toast before my run and I never felt sick! I usually run on an empty stomach, but I didn’t get started until later and I wanted to go to the grocery store right after my run, so I ate something to hold me over.
I thought Strava looked cool. You can tell I ran the same loop over and over again.
I ended up being too hungry (and way too sweaty) to go to the grocery store after my run, so I came home to change and have breakfast. I had a burrito with bacon. Mmm.
I grabbed a cold brew from Lucky’s and got my shopping finished! This is the best way to shop – with coffee.
I got home from the store and started on prep. I got almost everything finished by the time Jake got home around 1PM. He had a blast fishing and caught a bunch of fish. Here’s one of the pictures he sent me.
We headed to grab lunch after he got home – Which Wich for the win!
We ran a couple of errands, too. I saw this beer. How cute?!
Meal prep – donezo!! Having our fridge look like this feels SO good. We are ready for the week!
We had our families over Sunday night for a BBQ to celebrate Father’s Day! We love our Dads!
Dinner was INCREDIBLE. We had brats, cowboy grillers, ribs, buffalo chicken dip, baked beans, a quinoa avocado salad, and dessert. Mmmm.
I love seeing the different ways that Aspen sits in this chair. She almost always has her front paws crossed.
Aspen lounged in her bow until bedtime.

It’s day one of marathon training! I’m lifting and going to yoga today. : ) It’s funny that day 1 isn’t running, huh?

Other than that, it’s a day full of computer fun. I’m getting there, friends. Each day that goes by, I get more and more excited to be finished. Like, I absolutely cannot wait. But I also get more and more nervous that I won’t have enough time. Does that sound crazy? Yes. I’ve heard dissertations make people crazy…

Anyone else not able to have peanut butter before working out?
Anyone else get sad about retiring running shoes??

Happy Monday!
