Puppy overload + pushing past your comfort zone

We had so much fun at Josh and Val’s last night! Josh made amazing salmon, and Jake made a salad, brussels, and mushrooms. Val and I are lucky gals! I’m sad the picture is blurry…I think I was just so excited to eat. Typical. Lupine gave us lots of cuddles and kisses – she’s the sweetest pup!!

I woke up with MISERABLE allergies (I hope it’s just allergies), so I haven’t decided if I’m running today or not. I might take it easy today. I spent the morning working on my third comp – it’s getting there! Lu and I went over to my parents’ house for a little bit to work, she was pretty excited! She always stand up in this cute little gopher pose whenever the car stops. I don’t know how she balances like this, but I love it. As as soon as we walked in the door, she sprinted to the toy bin. Grandma and Grandpa have the BEST toys.

My amazing Dad has started doing some wood-working and he made my Mom this ladder. I couldn’t stop gushing about it, so I think I’m getting one for my birthday! Isn’t it beautiful?? He’s so talented. At everything.

After I got to a good pausing place in my writing, Lu and I headed back home for lunch. I had leftover salad from last night with some turkey and ham added to it. It was yummy! Then I heated up my coffee, grabbed my chocolate covered espresso beans (I’m savoring these!), and got back to work. I am actually a little ahead of schedule, at least right now, so that makes me feel a whole lot better! One more week of comps stress!! So. Close.

I haven’t written much about Jake’s 100-mile race last weekend, but I wanted to share a couple of things. First, I was so worried about him. I knew the weather was way worse than he had thought and he hadn’t taken warmer, winter clothing with him. Second, when he texted me at mile 70-ish saying he was going to drop out – which I was totally not expecting, he never texts during a race – I knew it was bad. Jake doesn’t quit. Anything. Ever. I hated that I wasn’t at the race with him, not that I would have been about to do anything, but I hated knowing he was hurting so badly and I was so far away.

I cannot explain how proud of him I am. His ability to suck it up and overcome is such an inspiring quality. I struggle with pushing myself to do things outside of my comfort zone, I always have. But each day, Jake proves to me that pushing yourself to do things outside of that zone is vital. Without his example and support, I don’t know that I would be able to push myself like that. He is definitely still recovering from the toll the race took on his body – he still doesn’t have all the feeling back in his hands and he can’t completely straighten his fingers. See how his fingers are curled in that first picture? They’re still kind of curled like that. I know he is frustrated about it, but they will get better. Neither of us is very patient, but it’s just going to take time for him to heal, so we need to trust that. I guess my point behind all this blabbing is that we are all capable of so much more than we think – never forget that! Oh, and Jake has nothing but positive things to say about Land Run AND he’s talking about doing it again next year. He’s trying to give me a heart attack.

We are going to Jake’s parents’ for dinner tonight! I love that both of our families are so close to us and that they’re all such amazing cooks. : )

Happy Thursday, friends!
Go do something amazing.
