Before dinner with some of my girlfriends on Friday night, I realized I hadn’t stretched after my 12 mile run..I’m REALLY bad about this. I get home after a run and just start getting busy. My legs were a little tight, so I sat down to stretch before I left. This little furball just wanted to cuddle. I’ll take it!

We went to Haruno for happy hour – they have the best food and drink happy hour! We chowed down on some sushi and caught up!

I always love spending time with these three gals. They’re some of the best!

After dinner, Cassie, Sam, and I wanted to sit outside somewhere, so we went to Cherry Picker. We had a blast!

I got home from hanging out with the girls around 11/11:30 and Jake got home from his 84 mile gravel ride about midnight. We needed to be up at 4 to get on the road to Omaha. It was a night of little sleep! But, we got up, made coffee, and hit the road. Jake was thrilled about pictures at 5 am. ; )

I’m not a huge donut fan. BUT I LOVE cake donuts sometimes. It’s really weird. I have to be in the mood for them. Well, I think I have been talking about a blueberry cake donut for a couple of weeks now, so I told Jake I NEEDED one for the drive. We stopped somewhere in KC to get this deliciousness. Oh my gosh. It was awesome. I think I could’ve eaten 6 of them…the picture doesn’t do it justice. I was too excited to eat it so I couldn’t stop and get a good picture.

I wrote a little more about why we were going to Omaha HERE, but one of my cousins, Grace, was born with Trisomy 18 in September of 2016 and she passed away in January. My aunt and uncle had a beautiful service in celebration of her life on Saturday and there’s no way we were going to miss that! Her big brother, Miles, kept us all pretty entertained in this bounce house! He’s the sweetest little boy.

I get this look A LOT when I ask him to pose for a picture…

Not only did this guy get called into work early on Friday morning, then rush to get to an 84 mile gravel ride after work, then get home from that ride at midnight only to be up by 4 am, he also drove the ENTIRE 6 hours to Omaha. He’s wonderful. And maybe a little crazy. ; )

We loved getting to spend some time with Miles and the rest of my family. <3

If you’re ever in Omaha, check out this new brewery. We were SO impressed. We got to talk to the owners for a little bit – who are the NICEST people ever – and I asked how long they had been open. They said less than two weeks! We were shocked. Their building is adorable and their beer is phenomenal. It’s called Pint Nine Brewing Company. You won’t be disappointed!

Then it was back on the road to head home! Jake FINALLY let me drive for about 2 hours. I’m beginning to think he doesn’t think I’m a good driver…maybe taking this selfie while driving wasn’t the best way to build my case…

Thanks to our friend Kallie’s recommendation, we stopped at Waldo Pizza in KC. Holy yum. They have an awesome salad bar and their pizza is incredible. Jake was obviously very impressed!

Then we decided we needed ice cream. We stopped at Betty Rae’s and fell in love. 3 hours till home…we were ready!

Our girls were all tuckered out when we got home and the next morning from all the amazing visitors they had. A HUGE thank you for Jake’s Dad, Cynthia, and Katie for letting them out and playing with them. We appreciate you guys SO much! The girls loved it, too. (P.S. That’s Lu’s booty sticking out from under the bed.)

Sunday morning we slept in – I think I could’ve slept another 6 hours, but we needed to run. Our run was not very good. It was hot, we both felt awful from not eating all that great on Saturday, and our legs/bodies were pretty dead from being in the car for 12 hours. But, we got it in – I only told Jake I was going to quit once…and it was at mile 2, ha! It was just not a great morning. I did 12.5 and Jake did 13, then we went to get lunch.

I got two tacos – one naked (no shell) and one on half an avocado. They were both amazing, but I could only eat one while we were at the restaurant. I don’t normally eat a ton of dairy, so on top of little sleep, being in the car for so long, and the pizza/ice cream we had, my body was NOT happy with me. Jake ate both his tacos and loved them!

I was dead tired when we got home, so I laid down for a nap. I just couldn’t get going! I finally got up and worked a little on my proposal, then had these as snacks – cotton candy grapes and my other taco! Mmm.

Our friend, Katey, was having a BBQ at her house, so we went out there for dinner. Her house is literally the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. My other friend, Katie, wore this adorable fireworks dress. I loved it! I didn’t have anything patriotic to wear (lame), so I threw on a red shirt. It was better than nothing!

Jake busted out the Bud shirt we got for him last year on the way to the lake. Is it bad that our only semi-patriotic shirts are alcohol related? Probably.

We had all this goodness for dinner. It was amazing.

Then we shot off fireworks and played with sparklers!! We ended the evening injury-free, so I’d say it was a success!

Breakfast and dissertation work this morning….I’m REALLY stinkin’ ready for graduation next May. REALLY READY.

I have a feeling this week is going to fly by. Jake is on call, so we usually stick around the house. We leave Thursday for Colorado again, so I’ll spend the week getting ready for that. We don’t have any big plans for tomorrow, we will probably watch fireworks somewhere and just relax.
Is anyone doing anything fun for the 4th???
Happy Monday, everyone!!
I’m officially hungry after leg day and even more hungry after reading your post! All those foooods looked incredible. I totally understand the sacrifice sometimes we have to make during the runs that follow some of the yummiest dinners. Thanks for sharing your adventures–I loved reading it!
