Miscommunication + a rest day!

So, one bad (not really!) thing about having a blog, people know what you’re doing and call you out on it! Jake read my blog before my run yesterday and as my running coach, he strongly suggested I go ahead and do the hill workout on the treadmill. Ugh. I 100% did NOT want to do that. But, he gave me a workout he had done and said to try it. Just keep all this in mind and I’ll explain more once I get to my actual run…

I had a biscuit with honey and some coffee before my run. Then I decided I needed another biscuit, this time with jelly. They were both delicious!

I texted Jake as I got to the Y and asked if this run would deserve wine – in my opinion, every run does, but that’s a topic for another day. He assured me that it did, as did my headband, so knowing I would be rewarded after, I headed into the Y ready to go!

Oh. My. Gosh. This run did NOT go as planned. Also, Jake and I had a major miscommunication about the workout. I started out with 3 warm-up miles, which felt great! Then the plan was to run 3 rounds of ‘hills’, so I was shooting for an 8-10% incline for 5 minutes. Well, that sounded really hard, but I thought I’d give it a shot. Also, I need to mention, that when I run hills, I try to go fast. Mostly because I just want them to be over with. Wellllllll, Jake didn’t mention that portions of this workout can be walked, if needed, so I tried to amp up my speed, along with the incline. I just couldn’t sustain that. I made it 4 minutes into the first round and had to drop back down to a flat, slower pace. I did my 3 minute recovery, then started again. Well, I only made it 3 minutes this time and the incline was 7%. Ugh. I was frustrated. I decided to just do 3 minutes at a fast pace at anywhere between 6 and 8% incline. That ended up working and was more sustainable for me, so I did a total of 4 of those. I did a short cool-down and got the heck off the treadmill. I ended up with a total of 6 miles.

I texted Jake right away and asked if he had been trying to kill me. This is when he tells me that the pace should’ve been slower and I could’ve walked if I needed to. All the eye-rolls. Next time, we will make sure to talk about the WHOLE workout!

I immediately grabbed a smoothie from Mama Jean’s and a Bota Box! The RedVolution is our favorite. It’s SO good!

I also had some chicken tenders with mustard and Sriracha.

Then I spent more time working on Chapter 3 – I have each day planned out, so hopefully I’m finished with it by Tuesday of next week. Fingers crossed. I’m already a little behind, so I have lots to do today!

A couple people have asked about lunches, so I thought I’d share what I usually send with Jake. I just end up packing his lunch when I start dinner, so it’s easy. If I don’t have time, he packs it and usually goes with the same types of things. This week he had chicken and veggies, Wheat Thins, yogurt, carrots and almond butter, an apple, an orange, a hard-boiled egg, a fig bar, and a La Croix. I can’t drink La Croix (sad day) because of the carbonation, but Jake loves them!

I saw this on Instagram yesterday and LOVED it. Especially after my treadmill run…

Dinner last night was spaghetti squash pasta with shrimp, scallops, and ranch, rolls, and salad. Mmmm. We use the Walden Farms Ranch – it’s the best!

Aaaaaand I got my wine!

We got to relax for a little bit after dinner and watch some New Girl. I’m SO glad Jake loves this show. It’s one of my favorites!

I didn’t know what sounded good for breakfast this morning, but I was craving something different. Then I remembered we had Whysk protein mix! You can make pancakes, muffins, and bread with this stuff. I’ve only tried the pancakes, but they’re yummy!

I added cinnamon, nutmeg, and some PB powder to the mix.

Ta-da! Happy Friday to meeee.

We have a meeting tonight for a board that Jake is on, but I think that’s it as far as set plans (YAY!). Jake has a long run tomorrow, 25 miles I think, and I will do 8-10. Then I’m going to work on Chapter 3 some more. I usually try not to work much on the weekends, but we leave next Friday for Colorado for almost 3 weeks, so I want to be able to enjoy that! We have some stuff we need to do around the house, too, so hopefully that will all get knocked out this weekend.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Friday and a relaxing weekend!!
