Yesterday was Jake’s birthday!!! We started out with breakfast and coffee with everyone at an adorable coffee shop on Main Street in Frisco – it’s seriously amazing. I had an orange cranberry muffin and LOVED it. He had a breakfast burrito with bacon and it looked delicious.

After we ate, we walked around Frisco a little with Jake’s family, then it was back to the condo so Jake and his Dad could sit in the creek and the hot tub. While they did that, I sat out in the sunshine working on the online class I’m teaching this fall. The sun felt SO good!

Then Jake and I headed out for some birthday fun!!

We took the Tacoma out for some off-roading and it was a blast!

We found this cute little house, and when we came to the End of Road sign, we kept on going!

We crossed some little creeks and stopped for lots of pictures.

It was the perfect afternoon activity for Jake’s birthday!

Just a little dysfunction… ; )

After we drove around, Jake and his Dad had massages and I took a nap. Then we relaxed at the condo for a little bit before going to Tavern West for dinner. If you’re ever in the Frisco area, eat here. Seriously. You will not be disappointed. I promise. Jeff and I had martinis with jalapeno and blue cheese stuffed olives. They were incredible.

The food was outstanding! Jake and I shared lamb carnitas tacos and a bone marrow canoe. Holy wow. So good! We were both so impressed.

They even brought the birthday boy a chocolate torte! It was on top of salted caramel and had a side of fresh whipped cream. WOW. We all stole a couple of bites.

Jake’s uncle and his fiance are staying at our house to watch our babies this week – AJ sent this to Jake. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make me tear up. I miss our girls something fierce. Isn’t this adorable?! Thank you, AJ and Morgan!!! You two are the best. <3

Some of the pictures from our 10k were posted last night. This one made me laugh because I know exactly how I was feeling right here – dead. I remember being so grateful that I was crossing the finish line and stopping my watch. The finish of this race was tough!

I’m glad Jake and I were able to get our finisher picture together!

Real talk time: So, I got up this morning really looking forward to a trail run. I had a terrible run Monday morning because I had AWFUL cramps, but I tried not to let it get to me because I knew I’d have a better run Tuesday. I just HAD to. Well, that didn’t happen. I woke up with terrible cramps again (being a girl SUCKS sometimes) and on top of that, my acid reflux has been killing me ever since our 10k. Long story short – I burned a hole in the lining of my esophagus a few years ago and every once and awhile, my acid reflux seems to get really bad. I’m not sure if it’s related, but it’s been worse ever since I did that. Anyway, before our 10k, which was an afternoon race, I drank a TON of coffee, which I normally don’t do before a run because it really irritates my throat and gives me acid reflux. Well, part of the reason the 10k was so miserable was because of my acid reflux. There were a few times I thought I was going to throw up straight stomach acid. Ever since the 10k, my acid reflux has been pretty awful. I started my run this morning and couldn’t even make it a mile. I got REALLY down on myself. I turned around on the trail to walk back and immediately started crying. I cried the whole way back to the condo. It’s just SO frustrating to have bad runs. Especially two in a row. I just wanted to run and enjoy the views, plus, now I’m off on my training. I just started focusing on all the negative things, which is easy to do. I walked to our room in the condo, grabbed my computer stuff and a jacket, and came to a coffee shop to work and collect myself. It takes me awhile to get over things. I won’t run later just because my acid reflux is always worse if I have food in my stomach, so I’m going to try really hard today to avoid spicy food (UGH) and take care of it.

As I was working, I came across this graphic. It was just what I needed to read. I’m still bummed about my run today, but I’m trying to look at it in a positive light. And you know what? There’s always tomorrow.

So, here’s to looking at each run as a blessing, which isn’t always easy.
I hope your Tuesday is wonderful!
That was a great read. So glad you and Jake are together. Hope to meet you soon.
Thank you, John!! You’re sweet. Jake is pretty wonderful – I’m very thankful for him! I hope to meet you soon, too!
I love you more than anything and want to make every day a happy day for you honey! Smile. Life is good! I love you!!!
Thank you, babe – I love you back!
Hi! Discovered your blog few weeks back. I have enjoyed ever since!! I don’t know much about acid reflux but I do know about how for the past year I have had non stop stomach issues. These issues have kept me from my runs or making me have to cut my run short. I have tried all different ways of eating and there is no reasoning to the horrible stomach pains I have had at times. A coworker gave me some fresh Spearmint leaves one day I was having problems and said I should try drinking Spearmint tea and see if it helps. (Spearmint…other mints don’t work the same, I have tried) I can not even tell you how much such a freakin simple herb has changed my life. Sounds ridiculous I know. But o.m.g.! Ever since that day and I have been drinking few cups a day I have been completely fine! So maybe…just maybe it can help you too, and if not there is no harm. Because dang it….the trails are calling! Enjoy Colorado…the mtns are amazing and spirit lifting.
Tracy,
Thank you for your kind words! I’m glad to have you as a reader. 🙂
I will definitely try the Spearmint tea! I might even try and pick some up tonight! THANK YOU! You’re SO right – the trails are calling and I want to run as many of them as I can while we are here!! Fingers crossed!! 🙂
