My focus/vision is still a little off from a migraine that started yesterday, so I apologize if anything is confusing today! I have read a few things and they didn’t make sense, so I tried to fix them. Major brain farts this morning. : )
Day 1 of no dairy and sugary stuff – I still occasionally use honey and maple syrup. I am just trying to cut out sweets and a lot of added sugar. It makes me feel better! These sausage links are chicken and maple, so they have a little bit of maple syrup added to them. I’m not worried about that kind of stuff. Just trying to find what works best for me!
Our friends, Annemarie and Nick, went to the Dominican Republic last month and they brought this coffee back for us! How sweet are they? I cannot wait to try it – it smells SO good. Thank you, friends!
I ran to the grocery store yesterday morning to stock up on stuff for the week. I finished these off on my flights last week, so I picked up more of the Spicy Cayenne, which is amazing, and snagged some Rosemary to try, too. I love these!
I washed all our produce before I went to workout, that way it would be dry when I got home. I also washed our fruit bowl. It looked like it had been awhile since it had last been washed…
A quick snack before my spin class – I love Wasa crackers. Anyone else out there enjoy them? And I will never turn down peanut butter. Ever.
I have shared a little about my hamstring problem and how I’m not running for a little bit to see if it helps. I have done something to the spot where my hamstring attaches to my sit bone. It started out just being a sharp pain in that spot that took my breath away, off and on, when I ran, but then it started happening when I sat or walked. So, I’m taking some time off, trying to find things to do that don’t irritate it. I’m trying to stay really positive and not think about having to pull from my marathon. If that happens, it won’t be the end of the world and I’ll still be pumped to go and support my girls (Kayla and Jyssica), but I’ll be bummed that I’m not running. My health is more important than a race, so I’m going to listen to my body and try my best to heal in the meantime! So, I went to a spinning class for the first time in a long time yesterday. I had ZERO pain, so that’s a positive!
Happy to be doing a little moving and not having any hamstring pain! Also, everyone in my spin class was SO nice.
After class, I sat and stretched for a little bit. I think I did about 10 miles – the computer on my bike stopped working, so I’m not really sure. It definitely hurt! My legs were burning the entire time…
Then it was home to eat lunch and meal prep! Aspen laid by the air vent in our kitchen for most of the morning. She loves anything warm.
I started to make a smoothie and heat up some leftovers for lunch, when I got a text message. I went to answer it and couldn’t really see my screen. I had these big blank spaces wherever I looked. It was weird, but I didn’t think anything of it – maybe I was just a little light-headed from working out and I needed to eat. So, I made my smoothie!
I sat down to eat and was still having vision problems. I felt kind of weird and was just having trouble focusing and seeing straight. After I ate my smoothie and some leftovers, I started to get a little worried because it just wasn’t going away. I didn’t have any other symptoms, just the loss of vision. I told Jake and he said he was going to come home and take me to the doctor if I didn’t go lay down. I said I was fine and that I would lay down after I finished one more thing. I had a bunch of things I wanted to do yesterday, so I was not happy about laying down.
I finished prepping breakfast for the week – it’s kind of hard to chop veggies when you can’t see straight. Yes, this was probably dumb and yes, I know I’m stubborn. I just wanted to get it finished! I did forget to plug in the crockpot for about 2 hours, so there’s my karma. ; ) Sorry for the blurry picture, this is about when the actual headache part of the migraine hit. I had never had a migraine in my whole life, so I wasn’t really sure what was going on. I just knew that I was having the worst headache I had ever experienced. When I could finally look at my phone again, I talked to some people (thank you, friends!) and did a little research, and it sounds like the vision stuff I was having was the start to my migraine. So, now I know. I laid in in bed, in the dark, for about 2 hours. I tired to get up after sleeping for about an hour, but everything came rushing back as soon as I stood, so I stayed in bed and slept a little more. I finally started to feel a little better when Jake got home from work. I had a slight lingering headache all night, and I still do today, but it’s nowhere near as bad as it was Monday afternoon! If I sneeze or cough, it’s pretty painful, but that’s about it!
Jake worked out without me after work and I started on dinner – we had shrimp, asparagus, and brussels. I added hummus and spicy mustard to the brussels – SO good!
A failed Christmas tree picture. I wouldn’t let Jake turn any lights on – only the Christmas tree! I love to just look at it. It also helped my migraine!
Jake ordered a camper shell for his truck, so he has been researching how to best camp out of it. We cuddled on the couch and talked about it – we also watched an episode of Bloodlines – our new Netflix show. It’s good! Suspenseful, but good.
Before bed, I put away our breakfast casserole. Thank goodness it was finished cooking since I forgot to turn the dang crockpot on. Eye-roll. It smelled super good!
I’m still having some headache pain/vision stuff, especially when I look at the computer for too long, so I’m going to try and break up my time on it today. I need to get a bunch of computer stuff finished, though, so we will see how that goes. We are having homemade pizza night at Sam and Ryan’s house tonight – their kitchen is AMAZING. I’ll post pictures of it tomorrow!
I’d love to hear any migraine tips from you!
Happy Tuesday!

I don’t have much migraine help. But HAMSTRING… I know the hamstring issue you’re talking about. Have you ever looked into PRP? I would definitely look into it. I was resistant to PRP (cost, no guarantee…) and put it off for about 4 months. I finally had the PRP and holy cow! It helped. I still had PT after and some recovery time. Worth a look into. But you also have to find the right dr. The dr I go to happens to be an ultra runner.
J.L.,
I will look into that! Thank you! I am currently on the mend (I think)…fingers crossed! I hope you have a great weekend!!
