Weekend Wrap-up + welcoming 2018!

Lunch on Friday was leftovers thrown into a wrap. It was delicious and I probably could’ve eaten 3 of these…

I sure didn’t hate getting this in the mail! Come on, graduation. Also, your Christmas card was adorable, friends! <3

This is one of my girlfriend’s, Christina. She is probably the funniest person I have ever met. She sends the best Christmas cards. EVER.

My doctor appointment went pretty well. While she isn’t quite sure what is causing my headaches, she put me on a steroid to see if that helps. I’m supposed to contact her first thing Tuesday morning to let her know if they’ve gotten better. So far, they haven’t. If they aren’t better by Tuesday, she will start running some other tests. I also still haven’t gotten my glasses, so I’m hoping that will help a lot. She also referred me to a physical therapist for my hamstring, so that was good! She said she knows I want to run forever, so I need a PT to help me completely heal and get back to what I love – my doctor is a runner, so I love that she gets how much running is a part of my life. So, that’s my headache/hammy update! Stay tuned for more.

Friday night, we went to St. Michael’s, which is my high school cross country coach’s restaurant. A bunch of girls that I ran with were there for a mini reunion. It was SO much fun! I had this delicious salad and a crab cake sandwich, which I forgot to take a picture of.

Here’s the whole group that met up, plus our two amazing coaches. It was such a blast.

Coach Russo has pictures of all his athletes hanging up in his restaurant. Here is one of them – I think this was my junior year of high school. Can you find me?? (Sorry it’s dark!)

Here’s a little clue…we attempted to remake this photo.

After dinner, we all went out together. We also had pancake shots. They were super good! I can’t remember what all was in the shot, but you chase it with orange juice and it literally tastes like breakfast! So yummy!

I have been sleeping in a lot lately. My headaches are still bothering me and I haven’t had the motivation of morning runs, so I’ve been feeling extra lazy. I think I’ve also used the holidays as kind of an excuse this year. It’s hard not being able to do your favorite thing, which usually gets you out of bed early, especially when it’s so cold outside. I get kind of down on myself when I do this, but I keep reminding myself that sometimes a break is good for us. I definitely think I needed a little break from my dissertation. I have started to miss my work, so I’m ready to get back to it Tuesday. Same with my workout regime. I just finished writing up a workout plan for the next 5 weeks while I’m not running. This will be a time for me to get to do some classes and other exercises that I don’t normally have time to do, so I’m going to try and enjoy that! I’ll be honest with you, not running is really hard on me. But I know this break is what my body needs to heal and come back strong, so I try to focus on that. I sat in bed and enjoyed coffee out of my new mug from Brandi Saturday morning. It was nice!

Then it was off to the Y for an elliptical workout. I did a little circuit – 10 minutes at a high incline and high resistance, then I hopped off to do 20 squats and 10 push-ups. I did that 5 times. It was a good workout with NO hammy pain and I even got to sprint a little on the elliptical, which felt like heaven. I have so missed getting to run fast. Getting to sprint a little on the elliptical really helped!

Sweaty, blurry sprinting picture.

As I was driving home, I found this handsome fella finishing up his 15-miler.

We were both starving, so we headed to Galloway for lunch. They had their Reuben on special, which is AMAZING, so I got that and shared a little with Jake.

Sorry this is dark, but this is the PERFECT bite. Mmmm.

After lunch, I had an interview for my dissertation and Jake did some work around the house. Before we knew it, it was dinner time – we were both hungry again around 4:30, so it was an early dinner (which is my favorite). We wanted Cesar’s, but they were closed, so we went to La Paloma, which is always delicious. I had a chicken and spinach quesadilla with super light cheese and Jake had tacos.

Their skinny margarita is SO good. Very fresh tasting.

After dinner, we went to 4 By 4 Brewing Company. Jake’s parents met us there for a little bit, then some of our friends met us. We played this game, which was hilarious! You read the card and then vote on who gets it.

Hats on hats! Jake and I got these awesome tumblers, too, which give you $1 off on beer when you bring it in.

Aren’t they cute??

Some of the cards we got…these are both pretty accurate. Thanks, guys! ; )

This is how I’m feeling right now with my dissertation – I am enjoying the process, but I keep waiting for it to get easier. I guess that’s what graduation is for, huh? Getting closer!

Here’s a throwback to our NYE in 2016. We were in Austin, TX with Scottie and Brandi!

I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year’s Eve!! I can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store – I’ll share my goals for 2018 later this week. I’ve got some big ones!
Happy Monday!
