Cryosauna + celebrating + memories + Go Girl run!

Veggie, egg, and sausage breakfast bowl again! I didn’t workout yesterday (other than my 10 minutes of abs). My hammy was a little sore after my Wednesday workouts, so I decided to take yesterday off. It’s hard to remember that I’m still recovering when I feel good most of the time. I have to remind myself that I’m not running because of an injury and that also means I shouldn’t overdo it with other activities. So, I took the day off!

I headed to my third cryosauna session at Kombat Cross Training. I got smart and wore a beanie, not that your head is in the chamber or anything, but it seemed to help a little. It’s gets SO cold, -250 to -300 F, and you stay in for as long as you can…I try to stay in for the full 3 minutes. So far, I’ve been able to do 3 full minutes each time.

After my cryosauna session, I had two interviews to conduct for my study. My interviews take anywhere from 45-90 minutes each, so I never know how long I’m going to be working with a participant. After each interview, I write in my reflection journal, jot down any notes/information that stood out, and sometimes I’ll start organizing and analyzing data right then. I didn’t have time to do any analysis yesterday, so that’s on the agenda for today and this weekend. After my interviews, I ate leftovers for lunch, then headed to Subaru to get my car checked.

I was there for almost an hour, so I curled up and got some reading time in!

I didn’t know anything about this book, but I started reading it yesterday. It’s okay! Not my favorite, but it’s nice to have something to read for enjoyment. I have a huge list of books that friends suggested, so I need to get back to the library to check some of them out!

Anyone else like prunes? They don’t look appetizing at all, but I just love them!

For dinner last night we had salmon and beet noodles. I baked the beet noodles with ghee, garlic powder, black pepper, and cumin for 20 minutes on 450 and pan seared the salmon in garlic, Coconut Aminos, Sriracha, and honey. So quick and easy!

After dinner, we headed to 4 By 4 Brewing Company to celebrate Jake being accepted to the Altra Red Team! They had over 2,000 applicants and he was one of the lucky ones. I’m SO proud of him. He has been all in with Altra ever since we started running in their shoes over a year ago.

4 By 4 has a java kolsch that is my favorite. It tastes like coffee, but it’s not overpowering. It’s SO good. It’s my go-to beer when we go there. Always.

Jake loves their black IPA, which is called 1835. I think that’s what he’s sipping on here. There isn’t a beer they brew that we don’t like, so we venture out and try others, but these are our two staples!

We played a little tic-tac-toe, as well!. I think I won… ; )

One year ago today we had a snow day from school and I headed out for an 8-miler in the snow! It was amazing. Man, I miss running. But it’ll be there for me when I heal!

THIS Sunday, January 7th, there is another Go Girl Run social run meet-up! We will meet at Galloway Grill (4211 S. Lone Pine Ave. Springfield, 65804) at 3 PM. You can run 1, 2, or 3 miles – totally up to you! Or you can even walk with me : ). After the run, we will go inside Galloway for drinks/snacks/early dinner/whatever you’d like! If you’re in the area, come join us! You don’t have to be signed up for the races – if you have questions about them or just want to get a run in with a group of amazing women, come join!

I have a deep tissue/sports massage later. I’m going to be drinking tons of water today in preparation for being sore. I also finally heard back from a PT and I have an appointment Monday. Fingers crossed they can answer some questions and get me on the road to recovery (and running again!!!!) ASAP. We don’t have any crazy plans this weekend, which I’m excited about! It’ll be nice to have some down time. We are having sweet potato chili for dinner tonight, so I’m going to get that going in the crockpot here in a little bit. It always makes our house smell SO good!
Any big weekend plans?
How’s your running going? Let me live vicariously through you! ; )
I hope your weekend is wonderful!

I need to be better about taking breaks every so often when I’m trying to rehab from an injury. I unfortunately still want to try to run my full marathon in February… so I’m still training. I also ran an awesome half marathon on New Year’s Eve in Texas which I think you would have enjoyed. Any big plans for the weekend?

      Lindsay,
It’s SO not easy to take a break. At all. I dropped from my full to a half in April, what was a hard email to send. Tell me more about your half!! So fun. What a great way to end a year and bring in a new one! No big plans this weekend! I’m excited for some down time. 🙂

With my half marathon … if there were any more things that could have been up against me I probably don’t think I could have run this race. First of all when you think of Texas … what do you think of? I think of warm, dry weather. What did I get on race morning? COLD, strong winds, and ICE. Fortunately the race director was really determined to get the race going and allowing all of the participants to earn their medals. I spent the first three miles trying to get my feet to get their sensation back. Once I could feel my feet I had the wind AGAINST me. That wind was fierce. Because of this I just stopped checking my watch and waited till I hear the vibration telling me I had hit the next mile. Around mile 11 I knew I had a chance to place in the top 3 overall for women so even thought I was tired and cold I had to dig deep and push through in order to get to the finish line. I DID end up finishing 2nd in a pretty respectable time of 1:44 for a course that was .3 miles LONG. Now that its over and I am home … I am SERIOUSLY considering running this race again NEXT year! 🙂
