Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. Anyone else feel this way??
I made sweet potato chili in the crockpot Friday morning. I think crockpot cooking is my favorite. I love just throwing everything together and letting it simmer all day. It also makes everything smell SO yummy. I added carrots and a yellow pepper to our chili this time.
I lounged in my new robe from Jake’s Grandma (THANK YOU!) for most of the morning, while I worked on transcribing interviews and did some other computer work.
Jake and I always put the same dressing on our salads (olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and Sriracha), so I made a big batch of it and we have been using it on everything. It’s been handy!
I cheated on Paleo a little and had a tortilla with my lunch on Friday. It just sounded good and I wanted one. These are the tortillas we get from Mama Jean’s. They’re called Miss Stacey’s, I think, and they’re amazing. I had leftover chicken marsala with humus in my wrap and a spinach salad with my dressing concoction. I topped my salad with nutritional yeast. Mmm.
I did a bunch of work on the computer after lunch, then I took a little brain break to get a workout in. I broke in my new buff from Trail Sisters – Jake got it for me for Christmas and I LOVE it. Can’t wait to wear it on my next trail run!
Here’s the workout I did. It was only 20 minutes and I got my 10-minute abs in there, too. Win-win!
Outtakes: when your phone has a mind of its own…
A little planking! I posted this on Instagram and everyone was concerned with how I workout with all that amazing wine in the background…the struggle is real, friends!
After my workout, I had a deep tissue/sports massage. She worked on my back/neck a lot, too, since I had a headache. She said she thinks the tightness in my back is also causing headaches. She gave me some stretches to do to try and combat that. She worked on my hamstring some more, too. I’m trying to do everything I can to get healthy again.
We had a super relaxing night in on Friday, which was wonderful. We enjoyed our sweet potato chili, salad, and a drink while binging some Bloodline. We haven’t done that in a LONG time and I loved it. Anyone else put avocado on top of their chili? It’s the bomb. Do it.
The girls loved relaxing. This is Aspen’s chair. She sits in it 87% of the day.
Jake got up early Saturday to get a 15-miler in. I enjoyed this breakfast before going to a barre class at Physique Fitness. I know I say this every week, (sorry) but I really miss long weekend runs. There’s nothing better than getting out of bed SO early and knocking out a double digit run before 7 am. You feel so accomplished! Can’t wait for my first 10-miler when this hammy is healed.
This made me laugh – I guess we crave sweet potato chili around the same time each year!
Barre burns so good. I am loving having the time to do these classes again.
Stretching after an amazing class.
Then it was home to work on my handstand game! I have ALWAYS wanted to be able to do a handstand, but I’ve never really worked at it. I’m going to start trying to work on it everyday. I posted this on Instagram and asked for some pieces of advice – people gave me SUCH great tips! If you have any, I’d love to hear them! I’m determined to get this down…
Lu just sits and stares at me like this sometimes. I mean, come on. How can you say no to that face? (You can’t…and I don’t!)
We met my parents for lunch at Galloway Saturday afternoon. I had the BLT (another Paleo cheat) and it was SO good. I ate half and Jake ate the other half about 30 minutes later, haha! That post long run hunger is real, friends .
Jake got the wings, which we both love.
We had a double date night with our friends Kindal and Michael, so we were excited to get to spend some time with them!
I put this locket on, it had been my Grandma’s and she gave it to me a couple years ago. I opened it and found this picture of me as a baby. It made me smile. Thank you, Grandma Carlene. <3
We went to Civil Kitchen for dinner with the Planks. We shared these appetizers, which were amazing – crab beignets (my absolute favorite) and hummus.
I had the pork belly tacos for dinner. I inhaled two of these SO fast and Jake inhaled the third. Totally worth it.
Thankful for such great friends like these two! After dinner, we went to a new place called Queen City Wine Dive for a drink. It was pretty cool!
The best part? They bring you these little donut things. Holy cow. So, so good. I was stuffed from dinner, but I never pass up food, so I had two of these, just for good measure…
After Queen City, we took the Planks to the new brewery that opened by us – 4 By 4 Brewing Co. We loved getting to experience their first time there with them. We sat around drinking incredible beer and playing games for a long time.
We played this game called, “What Do You Meme?” and it’s HILARIOUS. I sent this to my Dad (he’s a dentist). It made me laugh SO hard.
Beer, games, and free popcorn? Heck yeah. Also, look at that chubby baby. I love it.
Then it was back to our house for some more games and a little bit of puppy cuddles.
We played “Watch Ya Mouth” again and any word with a P or a B is impossible to say! No one could get this card.
We stayed up pretty late Saturday, but we were just having so much fun! Ryan, Sam, and Cassie had been at another bar right by our house, so they came by later and joined in on our game fun, too. It was such a fun night!
Jake and I slept in on Sunday, and when I woke up, I was craving pancakes (another Paleo cheat). We enjoyed this deliciousness while lounging on the couch, watching The Office.
100% could not ask for better running buddies. Even when I’m not running, they include me and we get to cheer each other on, which means the world to me. Jyss killed one of her first long runs in her marathon training. I hate that I’m not getting to train for the same marathon with her, but I am SO proud of her and I cannot wait to watch her crush her race this spring. The three of us are running the Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon and/or half in Nashville in April. As bummed as I was to drop from the full to the half, I know I am still going to have a blast with my girls and our guys. It’s going to be the best time!
I spent the afternoon meal prepping and doing laundry. It was such a gross day here, that I didn’t want to leave the house. I made a veggie and sausage breakfast casserole for us for this week for breakfast. I put zucchini, yellow squash, butternut squash, mushrooms, jalapeño, tomatoes, and sausage in this one.
I also roasted some of the leftover veggies for lunches! I made Paleo BBQ chicken in the crockpot, but forgot to take a picture. I topped these with olive oil and cajun seasoning.
I normally make my cauliflower crust, but I found this at Mama Jean’s and decided to give it a try! It was SUPER good.
We topped our pizzas with mushrooms, sausage, and jalapeño.
We had pesto on one and tomato sauce on the second.
We also put pepperoni and goat cheese on them. Goat cheese doesn’t bother my stomach (thank goodness), it’s my favorite!
We put sun-dried tomatoes and a balsamic glaze on both pizzas.
Our pizza creations! They were both SO good.
Mmmmm.
Pizza, salad, and beer? Always.
We spent Sunday evening relaxing, which was really nice! We haven’t had a weekend where we could relax so much in a long time. It was up early this morning to go to the Y for our workouts. I see a PT today, fingers crossed they can give me some answers…and that they don’t tell me I need to COMPLETELY stop working out until my hammy heals. I’m hoping to get to the pool later this week for some pool running, too. After the PT, I am spending the day at the library. I’m also going to check out some books – thank you for your recommendations! I can’t wait to start reading for fun again.
How was you weekend?
Any PT experiences you want to share? I’ve never been before…
Happy Monday!
