Happy Valentine’s Day + why I carry mace + nutrition excitement!!

Happy Valentine’s Day, friends! I hope your day is full of love and time spent with those who mean the most to you – which just so happens to be my wish for you everyday!

Let’s go over some Tuesday things. Since I wanted to run in the daylight yesterday, I started to get a little hungry while I was waiting. I can’t run with a ton of food on my stomach – hello acid reflux, but I can do some small, light portions. I snacked on some PB and cereal and that seemed to tide me over until breakfast!

I headed out for 4 miles. It was windy and chilly, but it felt SO good to run and be able to see without my headlamp. Don’t get me wrong, early morning runs are my favorite, but sometimes it’s just nice to have some sunshine. Also, look at those clouds! It was gorgeous out. I felt great for the entire 4 miles! I’m still taking it easy – my coach wants me pace (I was going fix this error, but it made me laugh when I read it, so I’m leaving it – hope it makes you laugh, too!) to stay between 9:15 and 9:30 for the next few weeks since I am rebuilding. From there, we will start to incorporate some speed work and other workouts. I am currently in Week #2 of 4 for rebuilding.

I had some striders after my run, which I did on Bradley Avenue. This will be my new last name in just a little over 3 months! <3

Also, everything is fine, but I had to use mace for the first time EVER. There’s a dog that is always out in a front yard on this one route that I really like. It usually barks and kind of chases me, but it never comes very far out of the yard, which I assume is where it lives. You all know I am a dog lover! Well, yesterday was different. The dog was in the same yard, but as soon as it saw me, it came barreling across the street (I was on the opposite side). I stopped and said no a few times. The dog stopped, but as soon as I started moving again, it came sprinting at me, teeth barred, growling, and all the hair on its back standing up. I stopped again and said no, but the dog didn’t stop this time. I sprayed my mace in its direction and it stopped. We stared at each other for a little bit and I kept telling the dog to go home. It seemed to calm down a little, so I started walking again. I guess it didn’t like that because the same thing happened a second time. I had to spray my mace again, and I think I actually got the dog this time. He ran like crazy down some other street. I didn’t see him again, but you can bet this will make me remember my mace from now on!

One more picture from my run because I want to end on a positive note! The clouds were seriously incredible.

Breakfast after my run was our crockpot breakfast casserole!

I’m pretty proud of this document – it contains my research question and 5 sub-questions (on the left) and all of my interview questions (on the right). I made this chart to document how each interview question answers some aspect of my research questions. It’s been really helpful in analysis!

After some computer work, I took a break for an Epsom salt bath. My run felt great, but those striders (which I do every Tuesday) definitely test my hamstring a little. They don’t hurt, but I can feel it pulling when I do them. I’m really working on listening to and trusting my body during this healing process!

Lunch was leftover fajita fixings and some tortilla chips. We are working on not having food waste and I had forgotten this was in our fridge. Yesterday was the last day I would’ve wanted to eat it – the peppers had gotten pretty soggy.

Anyone else walk into another room and see their dog laying down in a cute way and just want to cuddle them?
Picture

Yeah, me neither…

I ended up falling asleep for about 20 minutes, whoops! I woke up hungry, so I had a snack and then got back to work.

I LOVE getting things in the mail!!

Jake came home from work and headed out for another run – he’s doing a winter climb in Colorado this weekend, so he’s running 10 miles in the mornings and 5 in the evenings so he can get his miles in. He’s a little bit crazy, but we are proud of him…and super impressed by his dedication. For his run last night, he decided to take the girls. He took Aspen on the first 3 and came back to get Lu for the last 2. Lu sat here and cried until he came to get her…they’re both SO spoiled.

When you have the best Dad in the whole world!! This was the best picture I could get of Lu – she was jumping and wagging her tail all over the place.

While Jake and Lu were finishing their run, I started on dinner. We had leftover turkey/lamb/zucchini burgers. I also made some cauliflower fried rice and more brussels in the AirFryer. I did not like the combination of seasonings I put on the cauli rice – never again!

Cranberry goat cheese is the BOMB. I put it on our burgers.

After dinner, we ran the store to get stuff for Jake’s trip and our Valentine’s Day dinner. I also saw these and had to get them! I’ve been wanting to try these noodles forever.
Picture

I NEEDED chocolate. I was so excited about the chocolate covered gummi bears…until I ate one. It’s cinnamon, which isn’t my favorite. They were still really good! I just won’t eat them. My Mom LOVES cinnamon, so I’m going to give these to her!

Jake got some new snowshoes for his climb this weekend – how cool are these?!
Picture

We opened up our box of goodies from Skratch – heck yeah for clean nutrition!

This should last us awhile…

Aspen got some good cuddles in before bed.

I am going to the Y in a little bit to do the elliptical, then I will go to HealthTracks. Jake has a dentist appointment (with my Dad) today, so he is taking off early from work. He also has something planned for us after his appointment, so I’m excited for that!! Then we are just relaxing at home! It’ll be perfect. We are cooking a FULL rabbit for dinner, so stay tuned! We have done this before and it was delicious!

Any big Valentine’s Day plans??

Happy Wednesday, friends!
