Weekend Wrap-up!

Friday morning was busy! We were rushing around trying to finish getting packed, take the girls to our parents, and hit the road for OKC. After we dropped our girls off, I made a quick breakfast. Eggs, veggies, and half a bagel. Also, goat cheese. <3 By now, you know it’s my obsession. I can’t stop.

Road trip essentials – coffee and dry cereal. We hit the road for OKC about 9 AM. For anyone who missed my post on Friday, we went to help Ultramax with the Go Girl race that took place on Saturday! Jake was actually working the race, and since I’m their ambassador (and just really love the race series), I went to volunteer and run one of the distances. Go Girl has 4 races – one in OKC, one in Springfield, one in Columbia, and one in Kansas City!

We stopped at Sonic for lunch and I had the grilled chicken wrap. It was delicious. I had forgotten how yummy their wraps and tater tots were.

We got to the race site right as registration was starting. I LOVE doing this kind of stuff. I worked from 2-7 at checking in athletes or their races. It was a blast. It’s fun getting to chat with everyone, too!

Thank goodness for Skratch bars – the best snack!

Beer and pizza for dinner? Heck yes. This beer is AMAZING. I had two and want more. Now. It was a ginger wheat. SO delicious.

RACE MORNING! Jake met the rest of the Ultramax crew in the hotel lobby at 2:45 AM so they could get to the race site by 3 to start setting up. I got to sleep in until 5. This weekend was amazing because we got to see how much hard work goes into putting on a race. Ultramax has some incredible people!

I was pretty torn on what I wanted to run. I had planned on doing the half before my hamstring injury flared up again two weeks ago. Once that happened, I decided to just do the 5k. The night before the race, everyone was trying to get me to the half – they almost had me convinced. I REALLY wanted to do the half, BUT, I knew it probably wasn’t the smartest idea. So, I stuck with the 5k. Choosing distances is HARD. Especially when you have your heart set on a certain one. I just reminded myself that my main goal is still getting to the starting line in Nashville healthy.

When I was trying to decide which distance, I texted my running girls back home and told them to tell me NO about running the half. They did! They’re smart. Thanks, ladies!

Pre-run coffee is the best coffee.

My usual pre-race breakfast.

Here’s the start of the half – the ladies in the front were FLYING.

I ran 2 miles to warm-up, then I went to the start for the 5k. I knew I wanted to try and push the pace a little, but I told myself that if I had any pain at all, I would slow down and just jog the rest. I wanted to keep my pace around 8s. I felt SUPER good, so I tried to stay near or under that pace for the whole race. I ended up running a 7:43 pace (according to my watch – official pace was 7:49). I NEVER had any pain at all!! It was incredible.

I was pretty excited about feeling so good during the run. Then I got my results and saw that I came in first in my division! That was totally unexpected. Also, the medals for Go Girls are always adorable. The medals for the half were MASSIVE – I should’ve taken a picture. I’ll post one after the race here in Springfield in April!

Post-race nutrition. YUM.

Jake was out working on the course, so I was going to wait and tell him about my race when he finished, but when I got my gold medal, I was too excited. I sent him these pictures.

After running, I helped with On-Demand for the rest of the day. This is SO cool. It’s an instant screen printing service right on the site. You’re able to pick out the type of shirt you want (tank, muscle tank, v-neck t-shirt, crew neck t-shirt, or quarter zip), then choose the transfer that you’d like on the shirt. It’s awesome. I had a blast helping with this and we were CRAZY busy ALL day.

Here’s the group at the end of the day! It was a blast.

After we tore down the race site, we all hit the road. Everyone was going back to Columbia, so they had a 7 hour drive. They dropped us off in Springfield on their way, which was after 4 hours. We all stopped for a late lunch at Arby’s about an hour and a half into the trip home. I had the turkey gyro and it was DELICIOUS.

Also, their curly fries are the bomb.

Jake and I got home and went to pick up our angel babies. This was the sunset as I was leaving my parents’ house. I couldn’t get a very good picture, but it was beautiful.
Picture

So happy to have my girl back! She was more concerned with looking out the window.
Picture

Jake and I were both worn out, so we went to Galloway to grab a quick bite. My friend Christina was in town visiting, so she and our friend Cassie ended up meeting us there. We stayed up way later than we planned, but we had a blast with them! I had the kid’s chicken tenders for dinner. So. Good.

Still feeling pretty good about the race! I hope that performance transfers to my half at the end of April.

Sunday morning, we got up and met Cassie and Christina for brunch at Brew Co. I had a veggie omelette, toast, and BACON.
Picture

Then it was time for grocery shopping – I listened to music while I shopped. Does anyone else do this?
Picture

I cannot stop eating this snack.

When I went to the grocery store earlier in the day, it was cold and rainy, so chili sounded good. It ended up warming up, but we still had chili! It was delicious. I love topping chili with Greek yogurt and avocado – SO yummy. Also, I LOVE cornbread. I got a new kind, it’s by Bob’s Red Mill and it’s incredible.

After dinner, I did some laundry, then hopped in the tub for an Epsom salt bath. This is hands-down my favorite scent. It smells so good.
Picture

I came out to this…maybe I can train them to put laundry AWAY…
Picture

Time for bed! I read a little bit and the girls smothered me.
Picture
Lots of good night kisses. I think they’re happy we are home!

I have lots of computer work today! I try to knock out as much as I can on Mondays. I’m ready to get to work! I’m going to run later and MAYBE hit up the yoga studio –  we will see how the day goes. I’m looking forward to my run! I took yesterday off, which I think was a good thing. My legs feel fresh this morning. I hope your weekend was incredible!
Happy Monday!

The Go Girl Race Series sounds like a blast. I have been looking for an April race … do you know of any discount codes for any of their races? If you do I might consider making the drive down to run the half marathon!!
I also LOVE wearing my headphones when I am at the grocery store because then people “leave me alone”. Yes, when I go to the store I just want to be “left alone” so I can peruse the aisle and enjoy my hour or so that I need to pre-plan for the next week.
Final question … were there any guys that ran the race? If so, that is so cool. If not, is there a reason why they can’t??

      Lindsay,
I will ask about the codes!! I’ll get back to you.
Heck yes to headphones while grocery shopping!
Guys can run the race, but it’s geared towards women. It’s such an awesome race series.
      Have a good one!
