Yesterday was Jake’s 30th birthday! His office considers birthdays to be holidays, employees get the day off for their birthdays. We got the spend the whole day together!
I saw this card at the store and you know I just HAD to get it for Jake. HA!

Jake woke up at 4AM to run with some guys Tuesday morning, then he came back home and took a nap. We had been up until almost 11 the night before his birthday, so he was worn out. I got up about the time he came home from his run. I needed to do some cross training or something yesterday, but I just didn’t feel like it, so I hung out with Lu while she ate and played and then I got some work done while Jake napped. Someone got a new pink unicorn toy. She had it right next to her the whole time she ate breakfast.

I walked into our bedroom and saw this. It melted my heart! Lu is not a super cuddly dog and Aspen REALLY was. Seriously. Aspen was the BEST cuddler. I love seeing Lu cuddle us more. She sure learned some great things from Aspey.

I was starving, but wanted to let Jake sleep for a little bit, so I knocked out a bunch of work and had a snack.

Jake got up, we opened presents, and then we headed to brunch. I got Jake a bunch of little presents. He loves practical gifts, so I got him things he will use – funny cycling/running socks, Justin’s dark chocolate peanut butter cups, wine, whiskey, stuff like that.

I also made this shadow box for Aspen. We are having her cremated, so I thought we could put the box with her ashes somewhere with this.

This is a close-up of the picture in the shadow box. I just love it! It would always crack me up when she caught her upper lip in her teeth like this.

We headed to The Order for brunch. I had toast with mushrooms, spinach, eggs, and goat cheese. Plus a side of bacon because they have the BEST bacon.

Jake had the special, which was tacos. He said they were good!

After brunch, we went to Crave! It’s a new edible cookie dough place downtown. It’s amazing.

We hung out with Jake’s Nanny for a little bit, then we went to Cherry Picker’s for a drink and sat outside. This sour ale is SO good! Also, it’s a dark pink color. Win-win. ; )

We had dinner plans, but before that, we went home to relax and get some Lu cuddles in.

Our friend Wade called and asked if I could pick up some flowers and deliver them to Kayla when she got off work. They were celebrating one year of buying their house!! I was honored to deliver the flowers, plus, it meant I got to see this pretty girl! She was shocked. Look how huge that bouquet is! Happy one year (and now one day) house-iversary!

We couldn’t decide what we wanted for dinner, but there’s a new sushi place opening TODAY pretty close to us. We saw they were having their soft opening last night, so we went to check it out. It’s called Izakaya.

30 looks pretty good on him. He also knows where to look when someone is taking a picture…that must come with age. ; )

We started with sweet potato and asparagus tempura. Both were super good. The sweet potato was my favorite.

We shared three rolls and I honestly couldn’t tell you my favorite…they were all outstanding.

After dinner, we picked up some stuff to make Old Fashioneds. Luxardo cherries are expensive, but they are NECESSARY in a good Old Fashioned.

We sat outside and sipped on our drinks. It was a wonderful day with my husband! Now it’s back to the real world today – I have to get the oil changed in my car, get groceries, run, and knock out some more work. Adulting real hard.
Happy Wednesday, friends!
The next time I read a blog, I hope that it doesn’t disappoint me as much as this one. I mean, I know it was my choice to read, but I actually thought you’d have something interesting to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you could fix if you weren’t too busy looking for attention.
