No excuses + worth it + my nighttime routines!

I got a new Bondi Band the other day, so I broke it in on my run Monday morning. I love the colors. These are definitely some of my favorite headbands. They fit SO well and the material wicks sweat.

I posted this on social media, but I did NOT want to run yesterday. I literally used every excuse in the book. I hadn’t slept well – I don’t think I fell asleep until around 2AM…I had the WORST cramps ever – I was having a hard time standing up straight…I was super hungry and wanted to eat, but my overnight proats had applesauce in them and I knew that would upset my stomach on my run…I had a workout run, so I thought I could save it until a day when I actually felt like doing it…and I was still sore from my trail run. I tried everything to convince myself I didn’t need to run yesterday. I finally looked at my training plan and saw how far I’ve come. This time last year I was battling an injury that KEPT me from running. I was miserable. Was I going to let these lame excuses keep me from running now? Hell no. So, I took some Tylenol, chugged my BCAAs, and hit the road.

I 100% got caught in a downpour, but man, my run felt SO good. And to be honest, it hurt. I didn’t hit all the paces I needed to, so normally, I would’ve been down on myself. But I ended this run being proud. I did it when I didn’t want to, and sometimes, that’s enough! I think that’s why it “felt” good. I did something I didn’t think I’d be able to do/didn’t want to do.

My workout was as follows: 3 mile WU, 5x (1,200 between 7:45 and 7:55 w/ 3 min recovery jogs), 1.5 mile CD. I ended with 10 miles at an 8:32. I struggled to keep my paces where they needed to be on three of my miles. I ended up running a super hilly route and just didn’t have the umph I needed, but I still felt strong after this run. We never regret the runs we do. Ever.

Then it was home to devour my overnight proats. This is definitely one of my favorite breakfasts.

Meal prep = donezoooo!

Lunch for me was the rest of that veggie beef and butternut squash. Mmm.

I had a hard time working on dissertation stuff yesterday. I’m so close to being finished, but I still have SO much to do. I just couldn’t do much yesterday. I felt stuck. I worked on other stuff and cuddled my babe.

Guys, I kinda forgot about this snack! Can you believe it? It’s back!

Remember that Thai Coconut Curry hummus I was always eating? Well, I decided to make my own! I pretty much followed THIS recipe. It’s SO good!! I added Sriracha and Cayenne pepper to the mixture, but we like spicy over there.

All the orange things. I like these Zevia drinks as a treat. They’re too sweet for me, but I dilute them with water and they’re about perfect!

Not too shabby for Day 1 of tracking macros based on the iHeart Macros plan I just got back! I even got to have a glass of wine. Win-win! I like to put all my meals into my tracker in the morning, that way I can plan everything out and alter as the day goes on if I need to. I’m a data nerd, so I LOVE this kind of stuff. I have a little leniency with carbs and fats, so it won’t always look like this, but it’ll be close.

The grill master. All the heart eyes.

For dinner last night we had veggies on the grill, a tuna steak for me and a green hatch chili burger for Jake. Lucky’s makes their own and they’re super good! Jake gave me a tiny bite of his. Also, that tuna steak was 9.3 ounces. I ate the whole thing. It was massive!

This made me laugh super hard. SO TRUE.

Does anyone else have things they HAVE to do before they go to bed?? I don’t like dirty dishes or dishes in the sink. Ever. We could be watching a movie during dinner in our living room, but as soon as we finish eating, I HAVE to wash the dishes. I can’t let them sit on the coffee table. It drives Jake nuts because I make him pause whatever we are watching. I can’t help it! It just makes me feel like I can relax. So, I like to have a clean kitchen before I go to bed. Anyone else?

And I always have our coffee ready to start – I was SUPPOSED to get up at 5 today, hence the 4:40 start time, but I definitely slept in until about 6:30. Whoops! It’s been so rainy here, so sleeping is just feeling extra amazing. Plus, I think I was catching up from not sleeping Sunday night. Oh well! Our coffee usually starts at 3:40 if I’m going to run in the dark with Jake. I haven’t been running by myself in the dark lately. I just have had a weird feeling about it. So if I don’t get to run with Jake, I will wait until he leaves for work to go run.

What are some of your must-do routines? I’d love to hear them!!

I had planned on working last night, but I just didn’t feel like it. I had awful cramps again and just wanted to chill, so I did! I poured myself a glass of wine and lounged on the couch. Jake went fishing with two of his buddies, so it was just me and Lu at home. We watched Parenthood and cuddled. It was nice. I will make up for my lack of productivity today! I promise.

I’m about to have breakfast – I’m starving! Then I’m going to knock out some work before my workout. After I workout, I need to take our recycling. I loaded ALL of it into my car yesterday and drove down there, only to remember RIGHT as I was about to turn in that it was closed on Mondays. UUUUGH. So, it’s going today! My grandparents from Florida will be here tonight!! We have dinner at my parents’ house with them and I cannot wait to see them. We haven’t seen them since our wedding in Colorado.

I know it’s been so gloomy here because of the rain, but I’m kind of loving it. Maybe because I don’t have to leave the house? I used to get so annoyed when I’d get all dressed up for teaching and then get rained on. (I used to teach middle school – I loved it…most days! ; )) The four classes I’m teaching this semester started yesterday – so far, so good! Grading is going to be nuts this semester because I have almost 150 college students, so we will see how that goes!

Happy Tuesday, friends!

Have you read ROAR by Stacy T. Sims, Phd? A lot of info on menstrual cycles, hormones, and how they affect performance. (I just spend 10 minutes with my coworker trying to remember if it is affect or effect) Are we correct 🙂 We are social workers not English majors 🙂
Here is a podcast I listened to before I picked up the book.

      Hi, Rebecca!
No, I haven’t read that book! I’m definitely going to check it out – thank you so much!
Haha, thank you for the laugh! And yes! You used affect correctly – those two words can be confusing! : )
I hope you have a wonderful day!!!
