I finally went back to work yesterday after two terrible days of having the flu. Apparently, the flu is going around school like crazy. So many teachers and students are out sick. I am so thankful mine didn’t last longer than about 2.5 days.
I felt like I was away from school so long that I forgot what I was supposed to be doing, ha! I spent the day trying to get caught up on things and make a dent in my to-do list. I ate TWO entire meals of real food yesterday, so I’m saying that is a huge win. I had a headache most of the day, but that is about the only thing left from being sick. I am still super worn out, but I plan to catch up on rest this weekend. Lunch was chicken, potato, broccoli, and bacon casserole. It was pretty delicious.
After school, I ran a couple of errands, then went home and did a super short body weight workout. My body feels really puffy from being sick and all of the fluids I have been drinking. Jake called on his way home from work and I told him that nothing sounded good for dinner, so I didn’t know what we would have. In the 8 minutes it took for him to get home, I decided to make BLTs with some random things I found in our fridge. I couldn’t believe we had everything I needed to make them. They ended up being super delicious and hit the spot. I also sautéed some frozen mixed vegetables to have with our sandwiches, so that was yummy, too. I just recently started cooking my bacon in the oven and it is seriously the best thing ever. I can’t believe it took me 31 years to figure out that amazing life hack.
After dinner, Jake and I sat at our kitchen table and just relaxed. He worked on some computer stuff and had a drink and I colored in my adult coloring book. It was nice to do something mindless and just chat. I told him I couldn’t believe his stomach could handle having a drink. I can’t even think about that yet. As I was sitting there coloring and relaxing, I kept thinking about how I used to crave doing things like that when I was working on my doctorate. My evenings were ALWAYS spent working on something for school. It’s still kind of strange to be finished with school. I NEVER have to be a student again. It’s just so strange. I wonder when it will sink in. The point of that tangent is to say that I like relaxing. : )
I almost got this picture colored, but I was sleepy, so decided it was time for bed. I am not a super artistic person, but I do enjoy coloring occasionally. I have a hard time making myself stop, because once I start a picture, I want to finish it.
It was so dang tempting to turn my alarm off at 4AM this morning and sleep until 6:30. However, I missed my girls and I knew I needed to run. Not because I’m training for anything, but I just needed it for myself. I did let myself stay in bed until about 4:20, then I got up, checked the weather, bundled up, and headed out the door. I didn’t have a ton of energy, but it was so nice to just run and catch up with the girls. Kayla, the one right above my head, also had the flu this week, and Becca, the one in the left of this picture, had the flu a few weeks ago. We shared horror stories and talked about how thankful we were for good health now. We knocked out 6 windy, cold miles together.
We are supposed to get some crazy precipitation and ice starting very early Friday morning, so we will see what our weather does. We probably won’t get our group trail run in Saturday morning, but I am hoping the ice melts enough so that we can run on the road. We are already off school Monday from Martin Luther King Jr Day, and I don’t really want another snow day, but we will see what happens.
Happy Friday Eve, friends!
