Day 2 (Friday) of our trip started with oatmeal before venturing out for a little snow shoeing.
All bundled up and ready to go! We were in Estes Park, where they were having 40mph wind gusts, so we wore all the warm things so we could stay cozy.
These views never get old.
We even saw some elk!
We drove around, did a little shopping, ate some leftovers for lunch, then headed out to snow shoe Lumpy Ridge Trail.
We hiked a trail up to Gem Lake. The trail was gorgeous. We were some of the only people with snow shoes on, everyone else just had spikes. A couple people stopped us and said they wished they had had snow shoes with all the fresh snow that was on the ground. We were thankful we had snow shoes!
Here is where we turned around. This is Gem Lake and it is beautiful.
We saw more elk after our hike, which made my day. Now I was focused on seeing a moose…
For dinner, we went to Ed’s Cantina in Estes and had some of the best Mexican food. We started with bacon wrapped jalapeños and dates, plus cornbread. Holy yum.
We also shared some tacos – bison (our favorite), cod (second favorite), and sweet potato (not a favorite).
Day 3 (Saturday) started with packing up everything from the Airbnb and heading to Leadville, one of our favorite places. Lola was packed and ready to go!
I felt pretty awful most of Saturday. I was car sick, had a headache from altitude…all that fun stuff. Two things that always help with motion sickness for me – Dramamine and salt and vinegar chips. Life savers.
We were so happy to get out of the car when we made it to Leadville.
We walked to one of our favorite Leadville restaurants for dinner Saturday night – Tennessee Pass. It’s amazing. We had to stop and take a picture by the Lifetime sign since we have spent so much time in Leadville due to the race they put on. This is the first hundred Jake finished, when he proposed at the finish line – the best day.
Tennessee Pass has the BEST brussels ever. We get them every time we eat there. We shared these, soup, and a burger.
After dinner, we relaxed and watched a movie before heading to bed! I’ll share the rest of our trip tomorrow.
Happy Wednesday, friends!
