Weekend Wrap-up: hormones + 25k fun + Bentonville!

What a fun-filled weekend! We spent most of our weekend in Bentonville, which is one of our favorite places. Before we headed down on Friday, I picked up all my meds from the pharmacy for our mock transfer. I started my first medication on Sunday, so I wanted to make sure I had everything before we left town.

We unloaded everything at our Airbnb Friday night and headed out for dinner. You can’t beat a burger and beer the night before a race.

Coop chowed down on French fries and shared my burger with me.

We also passed the time by playing with Daddy’s sunglasses.

And eating lemons.

These boys make everything so fun.

After dinner, we walked around Bentonville for a little bit. Cooper loved these massive bugs that were in the pavement.

Saturday morning started with a 4:15am wake up for the 6:30am race start. Jake and I made coffee, ate breakfast, and got everything ready to walk out the door before waking up Coop. This was the first time we had to wake him before he was up on his own. He handled it so great and danced/sang on the 30 minutes drive to the race start.

I was retaining fluid like crazy, so felt pretty crummy all day Thursday and Friday. I think by bedtime Friday night, I had about five pounds of fluid all over my body. It was crazy. Jake couldn’t believe how swollen I was. I should’ve taken a picture! But I ended up starting another period (a forced one by our clinic), so I think that on top of the birth control I had been on caused it all. I woke up feeling less puffy and miserable Saturday morning, which I was thankful for. Again, I was very happy I dropped from the 50k to the 25k. I don’t think there was any way I could’ve done the 50k and not been miserable the entire time.

The day was crazy hot, so I was thankful for an early start time. The weather was perfect during my race. I told Jake and my coach that I was just going out to run for fun and enjoy being in the woods, so that is exactly what I did.

I got to see Coop and Jake about 9 miles in, so that made me super happy.

I ended up enjoying the race a lot more than I thought I would. I was still sad I wasn’t doing the a race I had trained for for so long, but with where I am right now, the 25k was perfect for me. I had fun, did my best, got to enjoy Hobbs State Park, catch up with friends, and spend the whole weekend with my boys. It was such a fun weekend!

I finished my race and then we headed back to one of the aid stations to cheer on one of Jake’s athletes, who was running the 50k.

Coop loved my medal. He held it most of the day.

My watch was about a mile or so short, but I ended with about 14.5 miles for the day. I felt really good after the race, but am still pretty dang sore today.

After we watched some of the 50k-ers finish, we went back to our Airbnb to rest. Jake headed out for a run and I got Cooper down for a nap. He ended up sleeping two hours in my arms, so I also took a little bit of a nap while he snoozed. It was wonderful. After our nap and Jake’s run, we headed out for dinner. We went to one of my favorite restaurants, called Oven and Tap. We had pizza, salad, and delicious drinks.

After dinner, we grabbed another drink at The Meteor and sat outside to enjoy the weather.

Their Old Fashioned was incredible.

After finishing our drinks, we headed to our Airbnb to put Coop to bed. Once he was asleep, Jake and I sat outside chatting for about three hours. We both didn’t realize how late it had gotten, ha! We had not planned to stay up that late, but it was so nice to just sit and talk.

Coop woke us up about 5am Sunday morning, so we definitely wished we had gone to bed earlier…we were so tired. Jake put him in bed with us for a little bit and we all snuggled. We hoped he’d fall back to sleep, but no such luck. This view makes my heart so happy.

I started oral estrogen Sunday morning! I’m on this for a few days and then we start adding in other things. Here we go!

Jake went on a bike ride Sunday morning and then we grabbed coffee and breakfast. On our way out of town, we stopped by the splash pad downtown so Cooper could play in the water.

We didn’t have towels or anything, so Jake used his Melanzana to dry Cooper off when he was done splashing around.

Then we watched Jake do some jumps on his bike and Coop climbed on these bear statues before we hopped in the car and headed home.

We got back into town, unloaded the car, and headed to the pool. We met Jake’s mom, aunt, and a good family friend there – we had the best time! Coop ran around like crazy until he crashed on Jake.

Naps on dad at the pool are the best naps.

Coop and I did a 20 minute recovery run this morning. My quads are still super sore, so I was thankful my run was only 20 minutes.

It was a wonderful weekend with my boys!

Happy Monday, friends!
