Our daily running calendar was PERFECT for this morning’s race. I have been working A LOT on speed – I did this same race last year, so I really wanted to improve my pace and possibly set a PR. I got up about 5:30, had coffee and a waffle with almond butter, and bundled up. The weather forecast was calling for possible snow, so I wasn’t sure what I should wear. I did come back in and change into a thicker base layer, which I’m glad I did! I headed to the race earlier than I usually do because I wanted to do a 2-mile warm-up, which I had never done before a race. I ran these two slow and easy at a 10 minute pace, but I was nervous about how it would affect me during the run. I don’t think it hindered my run at all, but I might just stick to a 1-mile warm-up, instead.

I finished the 15k this year at 1:17:05, with an average pace of 8:18. It was a definite improvement from last year’s finish of 1:31:06 with an average pace of 9:48. I felt pretty good until mile 6. I think some of it was mental, but my calf was super tight and my hip was sore. Overall, it was a great race – Ultramax always puts on super enjoyable races.
After my run, I went over to my parents’ house for brunch – we made omelets, sweet potato hashbrowns, bacon, and mimosas! They didn’t have Sriracha…I’ve gotta work on them!

I took Lu with me, which she absolutely loved. She found some turkeys in the backyard and stood like this looking at them FOREVER.

One of our really good friends is a photographer, like, a REALLY talented photographer. And as I was working on this post, she sent me some photos she had taken that I had completely forgotten about. These are from our New Year’s Eve trip to Austin, TX. We had a blast and it’s been so fun to relive some of that trip this morning! Thank you, Brandi!! <3

I plan to relax with my pups the rest of the day before a concert later tonight. Jake gets home late this evening, so I’m excited to see him! Here’s my view for the next few hours – I hope everyone has a fantastic Saturday – live it up!
