April 1, 2021: my PIO shots arrived late Thursday afternoon. GULP. I was SO dang nervous about this shot.
April 2, 2021: My first shot was scheduled for 10PM on Saturday (4/3) evening. We had decided that Jake would administer these shots, but I told him it would make me feel better if he could watch someone give one. My friend, Amber, who is a PA, had offered, so we took her up on it! THANK GOODNESS. I asked for some tips to prepare for the shots and got lots of good advice. Different things work for different people. I ended up going with numbing cream and heat – I haven’t felt a single shot yet!
The shot itself doesn’t hurt, but the liquid going in burns and you will get knots. I have some gnarly knots and a bruise on my backside, but other than that (and the side effects), the shot isn’t too bad.
April 3, 2021: I drew everything up for my first shot and got ready to go to Amber’s house Saturday evening – numbing cream and my heating pad have become my best friends. My shot is 1mL of progesterone in oil.
I 100% cried to Jake before we left and then I chugged two Truly Lemonades. The first shot ended up being no big deal and I was so thankful Amber helped us with it.
April 4, 2021: Jake worked Sunday morning, which is when I decided to do the rest of my shots, so Amber offered to do my second one for me, too. I got everything ready and headed back to her house. This one didn’t hurt either! I could feel the needle going in, but it wasn’t painful at all. I had a HUGE knot from the first shot. I don’t think I did a very good job of massaging it after.
Amber drew the spots for me with Sharpie, that helps me know where to put the number cream and tells Jake where the shot goes. I burned my tush with my heating pad (that red spot won’t go away, HA!), but overall, the shots haven’t been too bad!
We left for Florida on Sunday to visit my grandparents, so I took all my meds with me. Jake has been doing my shots – we have 4 down and are about to do my 5th! I have one bruise, which you can see in this picture, but that’s the only mark I have.
I’ve never seen a truer meme. HA!
We head home tomorrow (Thursday 4/8) and then go to St. Louis Friday (4/9) for my ERA procedure. I will have my last shot Friday and then get a little break from them until our transfer. My ERA is scheduled for 10:45AM on Friday – I am so ready for it to be over. I’ve heard it’s pretty painful. I plan to spend the rest of Friday resting, and will just see how I feel Saturday/Sunday. I shared on my regular blog that running is pretty painful right now. The knots in my tush hurt when I take a step, but they loosen up a little the longer I run. I’m just trying to listen to my body and go from there!
